Prepare for Your Next Shoot: Tips and Advice
First and Foremost: Hire a make-up artist!
- They have the products and know-how that most of us simply don't. If you're spending money to capture images you'll be proud of for decades to come, it's worth the extra expenditure.
- Your photographer can only do so much with post-editing software, and for the most natural-looking images, it's in your best interest to make sure the beginning product (beautiful you!) is as ready as can be.
- Assuming you took my advice and hired the makeup artist/stylist, arrive at your shoot clean and ready for product. Unless you have unusually oily hair, wash it the day before and bypass usual styling products. Don't worry about what you look like on the way to the shoot!
The Devil's in the Details!
- Get a manicure and pedicure. A beautiful shot can be tragically flawed when that hand your chin is resting on has ragged fingernails. The sexiest shoes look haggard with monster toenails peeking out of them!
- Drink lots of water during the week leading up to your pictures. Stay hydrated for beautiful skin.
- Moisturize everything, from lips to legs.
- Take care of stray hairs! Eyebrows, bikini lines, toes. Wax or shave assuming your body will be on camera... You never know what you may want to do during your shoot and it's a shame to miss a shot because you didn't think that part of your person would be showing.
- Don't go canoeing the day before your shoot! An unexpected sunburn or even new tan-lines, can ruin the perfectly planned concepts you've been working on with your photographer.
- Wear loose clothing the day of your shoot. This is especially important for intimates, where any marks on your skin (bra and panty elastic marks, etc) will stand out like bad tattoos.
- The most important things to remember is to HAVE FUN! Never do anything you're not comfortable with, ever. Your boundaries deserve respect.
- This is your photo shoot, so share your ideas and what you want to get from the session! Good photographers are collaborators. :)
